A320 Ground Spoilers

On the A320

Spoilers 2,3&4 deploy in the air (Flight SPLR's)
Spoilers 1,2,3&4 Deploy on the ground (Ground SPLR's)
Spoiler 5 L & R are for Roll Control & LAF Only (If LAF is not de-activated)

If we move the spoiler lever back on the ground
spoilers 1 to 4 will deploy spoiler 5 will only deploy with side stick selection.

Now with reference to
DSC-27-10-20 "Note1: For maintenance purposes, the speedbrake lever will extend the N°1 surfaces when the aircraft is stopped on ground, regardless of the slat/flap configuration."

When does this apply ? Do we have to put the spoilers in maintenance mode ?

B737NG Pilot,

You've answered your own question....."for maintenance purposes".

Hi McHale,

How do you put it in maintenance mode. Also why does it have to be mentioned in the FCOM.

It says for maintenance purposes, not maintenance mode, the aircraft config, flying, engs running doors closed etc will determine what moves when. On the ground, engs off, door open etc then they will all deploy.

It probably has no reason to be mentioned in there. Many other, similar, items have been removed over the last 10 years. Pity that, if you asked me, but the logic behind cleaning the forest floor is hard to dispute.

Hi Spanner

With Doors open, Engines OFF, APU ON Spoilers 1,2,3&4 Deploy on the ground. Just trying to figure out when will the following statement be true.
"Note1: For maintenance purposes, the speedbrake lever will extend the N°1 surfaces when the aircraft is stopped on ground, regardless of the slat/flap configuration."

My understanding is, only spoiler on each wing should deploy.
