Metal encased LRU on Aircraft

Hi guys just curious
what type of metal is use to encase LRU ?
why must metal be use to encase LRU
is the function of the metal to Ground the LRU ?

Is said LRU susceptible to interference? Could it be a Faraday cage of sorts? Wild guess based on info given mate....

Depending on what's inside, it could be just plain aluminium alloy (in most cases), or an alloy with high magnetic permeability such as permalloy.
