kevlar hinge

Hi, I know that kevlar is used for hinging the surfaces on some radio control gliders, but is this done in the full size world? (A 1 inch wide strip of kevlar is continuous and in the skin laminate and when cleaned of epoxy and 'cracked' acts as a hinge). Regards Mark

The only example I can think of where a flexible composite structural attachment is used on a modern aircraft are the composite flex beams used to attach helicopter rotor blades to the hub.

The Grob 104 Speed Astir used the wing skin as the flap hinge.

A hinge closer to the one you describe is used on the Mosi Motorglider. Its in a blog, so you will have to google "Mosi Motorglider" and "unhinged".
