Aircraft Maintenance/Engineering Apprenticeships

Does such a thing exist anymore? I applied whilst still at school with BA some years back, and despite getting into the last 30 or so candidates from over a thousand applicants, I was dropped because I only had anticipated grades and hadnt sat any exams.

Do BA or any other Airline offer this any more? I would still dearly love to become and aircraft engineer, but have no mechanical experience.

Thanks for any advice...
