IDG QAD ring installation on A330
Since 2010 we are experiencing high number IDG removals on our A330 fleet which are caused by loosen QAD tension bolts.
In some cases the damage on the IDG was more than $50000!
Are there any other A330 operators who are familiar with this issue?

Which engine are you using. The company I'm with have over 40 330 and use GE CF6-80. Been involved in many IDG cx's over the years and never came across a failure due to QAD ring. There are precautions when tightening the QAD on the CF6 and are as follows.............
(Material No. C10-071).
Tighten the QAD tension bolt so the QAD ring lugs fully engage the input flange lugs of the IDG. Make sure that the ring moves freely and does not catch. TORQUE the tension bolt to between 240 and 264 lbf.in (2.71 and 2.98 m.daN). Hit the outside edge of the QAD ring with a DRIFT - BRASS to fully engage the IDG. Measure the torque of the tension bolt. If
the torque decreased by more than to 24 lbf.in (0.27 m.daN), TORQUE the tension bolt again to between 240 and 264 lbf.in (2.71 and 2.98 m.daN). Do step (5) until the torque of the tension bolt does not decrease by more than to 24 lbf.in (0.27 m.daN). TORQUE the tension bolt again to between 240 and 264 lbf.in (2.71 and 2.98 m.daN).

Measure the distance between the ring lug and the bracket along the tension bolt. If the distance is less than 0.563 in. (14.3001mm), replace the QAD adapter. Safety the tension bolt (18) with lockwire 0.032in.(0.8mm)dia

We recheck the torque of the quad ring every A-check to make sure it is not loosened. Not necessarily the Bo.t loosening, but the IDG settling in. We don't seem to have any problems with them. CF6 engine.

@JayD:
We have had some issues on IDG QAD.
It seemed that even a slightly worn QAD ring will damage all later installed IDGs.
Replace QAD if any sign of damage to IDG/QAD flanges or locator pin.

QADs
Tap n talk....
so now Tap and Torque until the torque reading becomes stationary.
If this is old hat sorry, but we teach this stuff to all our mechanics and engineers on the line, to really hit the QAD all round as these really do work loose - and then the expensive cost of repairs..
The only time when you can really hit the engine components and we are very happy for you to do this.....
