A320 Flap Question

Hello Engineering folks,

Just an Air Trafficker myself, but recently I flew on a BA A320 and saw what appeared to be duct tape on parts of a flap.

So, my question then is what's it for? Just curious.

Thanks

Here's my take....

I've seen that b4 on the baby buses .... the metal rub strip on the flap becomes unbonded and the edge begins to lift. This can cause damage to the spoiler panels when the flaps retract. The aluminum speed tape is meant a temporary measure to secure the rub strip to the flap until such a time as a permanent repair can be carried out. I imagine the tape is monitored daily, or perhaps as often as each transit stop to ensure it is still doing its job.

Can't explain why there is duct tape over the speed tape though Bexil. That is bizarre

Duct tape on Flap

It is indeed odd, unless the 600 mile per hour tape itself was lifting off. IIRC, Alum Spped tape is approved for a Temp A/Worthy Repair NOT Duct tape especially on a Flap Control surface.....

The other tape is also speed tape, just dirty speed tape.

Aha! Thanks all for the explanations. Speed tape it is then.

Cheers
