Companies Looking for Apprentices Australia

Anyone know if/where/when/who is possibly looking for apprentices in either mechanical or avionics.

FWIW have completed both sets of Part 66 exams but beyond that probably completely useless.

Cheers

I think the reason you're finding it difficult to get in as an apprentice is because you may be regarded as overqualified for having done the full B1 and B2 courses, moreover I reckon you're a bit old for the apprtenticeship schemes as most companies would rather invest in someone thats young and would last longer in the company, normally in appenticeships and as far as I know the company sponsors you for these courses and normally apprenticeship schemes are meant for fresh school graduates.
So apprenticeship is not the applicable option in your case, you're better off seeking a technician or mechanic post, I'm sure you'll be coming across many companies seeking out technicians especially avionics.
Oh and I would like to recommend you not to mention the B1/B2 courses that you had done in your CV such that the companies in which you may apply never misinterpret your application as an engineer post application.
Keep looking.
Good luck

In Australia you would find it hard to get an apprenticeship now WITHOUT doing the part-66 training, as there are students getting pumped out of places like Aviation Aus with all that done, which means the employer does not loose the student to Tafe/Tech for weeks at a time.. (And still have to pay the apprentice while he/she is there)

You don't mention where is Australia you are applying, but if your serious try some of the more remote places rather than the bigger centres.. . They are usually smaller who don't advertise, but rely on word of mouth.. (I know where I work the last ADVERTISED apprentice position was 15 years ago.. since then they have been hired from word of mouth, or from resume's that were sent in usually with a follow up phone call/visit.)

If your just posting resume's out, and not following up with a phone call at least, your going to get nowhere.. they normally get lost on the desk somewhere, or shoved into a filing cabinet after a brief glance.. a follow up phone call shows you are at least interested in looking for work..

Maybe you could mention what area of Australia your looking in so people can give you some pointers as to who is hiring in that area....

That is my problem is I don't know WHO or WHERE to be applying? I have no contacts (as my training organisation and I have had strained relationships - simple questions I asked with no answer and all I did was escalated it). Tired of weasel words and lack of explanation. They have effectively cut me off.

Right now I would quite seriously commit to a 2 month, one day a week free of expense exercise just to get my hands dirty. But I want no involvement from my training organisation. Only interested in churning out way to many graduates for what seem to be few jobs.

Unfortunately I am one those pumped out from the sausage factory and having done exceptionally well counts for naught in the employment game. I added B2 to offer employer greater flexibility (and the long-term plan was to be dual licensed) but it seems to now be a hinderance.

Twelve months later (from finishing) and six months from letting the whole thing die out I am trying to work out if it worth the hassle of even trying to start again.

I was under the mistake belief that this industry was short of people wanting to learn. The training organisation also gave the impression that industry wanted people and that age and background were immaterial.
