better than a valve cap

While refueling a B767 the other day I found one of the fuel caps missing. Knowing we had one in stock I returned to stores collected it and returned to the aircraft and installed it. After filling in the refuel sheet I made a log entry..

Defect :-Fuel cap missing from wing fueling station...
Rectification :- Fuel cap replaced with "s" item per AMM 28 blah blah

Part num on ser num on and GRN

Twenty mins later called back to aircraft Capt throwing hissy fit...

He cannot find MEL/CDL ref for this.....Do not need one capt i fitted a new one...

" How do i know you fitted the correct one"
"How do i know you did'nt fit one you found on the floor or in a bin or that op's told you to fit?"

" where is the missing one?"
"How do i know it was'nt stolen?"

I was sooo near to telling him to get a life.....

Wow, I would have had this guy escorted off the aircraft at this point. Would have ripped the release out of his book and called MGT who at my co would have called security, assholes like this do not realize that you are the captain of that aircraft withought a release onboard.

The Refuel cap is in our MEL/DDG under 28-21-02, Cat C 10 days.

The cap is a required item because during a fuel jettison, the refuel manifold is pressurised.

thanks

Yes am aware that this can be deferred but the point is i was able to replace it during the refuel.

The crew were looking for an MEL/CDL ref for an item that had been cleared
plus they could not locate the ref either......DOH

I would have told the Captain, "If you are that bothered about it, go and check the IPC..Oh, do you know the effectivity of the Aircraft for the correct IPC? Oh, you better google what at GRN is too!"

That'll teach you to be helpful and concientious Mac.

You should leave that sort of thing to Licensed aircraft security officers.......
