A320 flap apparatus
Hello everyone
Does anyone. Know where I can get a working diagram/schematic of the airbus A320 flap actuation im attempting the impossible that is building a near scale working flying model ! From what information I have it uses torque tubes coupled to uv joints along the wings which are driven bt a motor in the centre if the fuselage, I'm struggling to find any info on the mechanics move the flaps back and down I believe there is a track inside the flap faring sorry to go on a bit ! If any one had any web sites or diagrams I could use that would be great

Yes I believe your right but I could really do with a diagram of some sort showing how the flaps are deployed and retracted etc plenty of videos on you tube but nothing really showing the mechanics

Not for the A320 but very similar I would say.

The A320 T/E flaps don't use a ballscrew actuator though as per those patent drawings.
The A320 flap actuators simply rotate an arm that pushes the flaps down the track, it is much simpler than the ballscrew design, certainly to model anyway.
Heres a pic of the flap actuator in the extended positon;

The actuator rotates through about 90deg IIRC, and literally pushes the flap down the track, or pulls it back up the track.
Heres a pic of the trailing edge, you can see how the actuators connect the the flaps themselves.

As the movement is only about ~90deg, to push/pull them, I'd not bother modelling it as such with torque tubes and geared actuators. Mount some small rc servos on the rear spar of your model, and actuate those the 90deg.
Heres a pic from the manuals; Hard to see whats happening being B&W but you should be able to work it out if you look at the photos above first:

I think I'll opt for the lever actuator much simpler not that I don't like a challenge I would like to have this aeroplane built before I reach pension age !
