Engine manufacturer - repair costs

Hi everyone,

A simple question, raised by a friend that i'm intrigued to know the answer to. We were talking about engines and repair of them, and how they are fairly expensive devices.

When repairing engine parts, is there a cost at which the repair is not done and a spare issued instead, and does anyone know what it is?

I'm sure it would vary between manufacturers - Pratt & Whitney, GE, Rolls Royce, CFM, IAE.

Thanks heaps for any responses,

ddmsabre

Hi,
you're right, there is a limit, named BER ( Beyond Economical Repair) but i can not give you a price, it's really various. It should be around 40/45% of the price list of the part/ module/ sub assy/ engine...
