I MECH E Interview

Hello everyone, this is my first post on here after staying in the background and observing for sometime. Time to jump in and see what happens.

I'm currently a registered Eng Tech and Member of the SOE, but want to become a Member of the I MECH E.

Two years ago, I joined the SOE through the RAF without any formal interview however this is not possible with the I MECH E. Has anyone got any hints, tips or can relay their experiences of their interview?

Will it be an single interviewer or a panel? Do the interviewer(s) tend to have experience in the candidates branch of engineering? How does the interview differ for Eng Tech, I Eng and C Eng?

Having just printed off the UK SPEC, I'm starting my analysis of how I satisfy its objectives, this will hopefully assist (and not overwhelm) me in preparation for the interview.

Its been 11 years since I have been to any formal interview so the thought is a little bit daunting!! Still, I'll have it all to do again in the future if I become eligible for for I Eng!

Thank you

It's a panel interview - I recall that I had three people for mine ( someone from a relevant field, one from IMechE HQ and a local branch person). This was for C.Eng. Have a look at the membership section of the IMechE website where there's a lot of useful information including some 'typical' Member profiles.

When I did my interview for CEng with the IEE a few years ago there were 3 members on the panel. tbh they were there just to make sure I knew what I was talking about against what I had written on my application. None of them were "experts" in the field I was then practising (high volume electical assembly production techniques).

It wasn't a hard interview at all.

My experience was similar, from what I recall (it was a long time ago!). They will mainly talk about your report and your role in the work, and ask you to expand on certain points to prove you know what you're talking about. It shouldn't be hard as you invariably have more knowledge on the subject than they do!
