A318/19/20/21 Apu Shutdown

What is the correct way of avoiding the APU flap door staying open while shutting down power from the aircraft?

Leave the batteries on until you can visually check it's closed. Or wait 2 minutes after the APU has shutdown.

Granard,
I left an A330 suggestion in your Tech Log Forum....
still delaying batteries OFF.
Much the same as previous postings.

I guess the original question was concerning shutting down the APU when it's your only source of power, hence no ECAM.

Approx 2 mins is what's quoted in the AMM but a quick run downstairs for a look tends to show it's normally quicker than that. Depends which door actuator you have fitted as the old type takes a lot longer than the new version.
