Apologies to all if I have chosen the wrong forum for this question.

My son is doing a HND in aeronautical engineering at a Glasgow College and I would like to ask the opinion's of those already working in the industry, what they consider the employment prospects for the coming years to be.

With just an HND - pretty minimal.

The important question is what he does next: an apprenticeship?, maintenance licences?, a degree?, goes and gets a load of appropriate work experience? Any of that, built upon the HND, may well make him very employable - but an HND alone, doesn't get him any further than the next step on the ladder towards genuine employability.
