Trainee aircraft mechanics.

Thought I'd mention this before the application expiry date on July 14th: Bae Systems is looking for trainees to be based at certain RAF fast jet bases. More details on a very popular UK aviation job search site.

(Hope this isn't infringing the No Advertising rule; the opportunity to apply for positions like this is too rare not to pass on.)

Bit of a local (Norfolk) success story here...
Youre right SMT, BAE doesnt have access to the right amount of minimum qualified staff for their poorly paid jobs, and has decided to actually train some to fill the gaps.
Novel Idea! - I know.
But so far they have trained staff for more than a year. LRTT are doing the courses at Doncaster and Kings Lynn (I think) Dont know how many have been released from their boxes yet.
The trainees arent ex-RAF either, but often local lads looking for a decent job in an otherwise sparse employment area.
Cant fault BAE for this move as everyone seems to be a winner.
