No the HKAR 66 licence is an ICAO type 2 licence and as such is recognised by certain national authorities. Malaysia, Singapore, various middle east states. It is not at this time recognised by EASA, or for that matter the FAA.
But in these places you can't certify under your HKG licence, what you have to do is (as I did when I first started with CX) convert your licence to the local national one. This is done normally by taking and exam on local legislation. The fact that you have an ICAO type 2 licence is recognised as such and to convert it to the local system you are examined on their legislation.
If you want to work in the US then you will need an A & P, but again some states also recognise this, who I don't know.
As for salary that varies from country to country and from airlines or MRO's in those countries.
