aircraft engineers question

hi
how do you become an aircraft maintenance engineer in the UK?
is the normal route by doing an apprenticeship after leaving school?
what if you have a related degree, aeronautical/aerospace?

thanks

I tried to answer a similar question a while ago.

Basically there are very few routes open to 'new' UK mechanics:

Apprenticeships - Few and far between and mainly for Large Operator/Maintenance Organisations they should all be booked for this year - but ask around!

Direct Entry - Cold calling on aircraft maintenance organisations! - Even Light aircraft need maintenance, so don't knock them out of sight before youve asked.

As mentioned on the quoted thread, there used to be an government backed organisation for training new mechanics/engineers called the Aviation Industry Training Board which I believe went under in the 80's (or 90's?).

There are a few Colleges which do Aviation Maintenance Courses, to various levels, as part of their Curriculum - It is well worth a look at larger colleges to see what they do.

Try the CAA webite for School/College info
