Alternators
I have conflicting opinions on whether alternators should be turned off in a piston a/c when shut down. Some say doesn't matter - leave them on all the time. Others say turn on after start and off after shut down.
Any more opinions - with a reason???

Re: Alternators
Bealiba,
I always turn them off after shut-down and back on berfore start-up. If I was completely honest this is a residual action from my PPL days where I was flying some real heaps with various electrical problems. I recall being told that if left on even with the master switch off there is a trickle of energy back through the alternator. How true this is I cannot justify but it does make sense. There is also the question of WHY? Why leave it on? If your not pushing any amps to the Batt then off she goes. Can't see any advantage to leaving it on. Will look through some books to try and justify my reasons. Until then.......ciao
