Testing of aircraft at airports (LHR)

Hi There,

I live very close to Heathrow airport, and as anyone knows who lives nearby, the movements stop at around 11pm and commence again at about 6am

When aircraft are using the north runway, I can hear them quite clearly

Last night, or this morning in fact, I was woke at about 3am by a fire engine. Once awake, I could hear an aircraft repeatedly running its engines up, as if it was stationary and throttling up and down, or being taxied along the runway at different power settings

I live near the threshold to runway 09L, so I this noise wasn't coming from what I think is the maintenance area over where the aircraft cross the A4

Is this normal? or was I dreaming.....I'd had a few last night...

Geoff

Engine runs of any kind are not permitted between 2330 and 0600 local, as far as I know....
