I work in engineering already, but not avaition. My job sucks, and I might be redundant soon... Someone suggest FE's to me but as new airliners don't 'ave them, is there still a need? Do the airlines train them from scratch, (passenger or freight, not fussy)? Got to be better than getting my hands dirty for a bean!!!

In order to even apply for an E/O position, you must have experience of aircraft engineering. (individual assessments are reqd by the CAA and about 3yr is reqd I think in either airframe or avionic disciplines)
unless you are involved in aviation engineering, and then again specifically maintenance work ON aircraft, you may have inadequate experience to apply.
