MD11 Electrics
Is there a tame MD11 tech out there that can answer me the following questions. I am trying to figure outthe possibilities of how SR111 could have lost all electrical power so suddenly.
1. Are the Generators self exciting or do they need battery for excitation?
2. Does the infamous SMOKE/ELEC switch system cause the next generator selected to be brought online before it drops off the previous one and does it check to see that the load has been taken by the new one?
3. How is the Air Driven emergency gen deployed.
4. Is the Air Driven gen AC or DC and where does it feed into?

Not familiar with the 11 but know its primitive DC10 stable mate well.
I dont know of any generator that needs the battery to excite it, as they self excite. APU gennys have a permanent magnet as a means of ecitement for the genny.
The ADG on a 10 is dropped mechanically and is an ac motor, which can be selected to power a hyd ac pump or feed into the RH emergency bus to supply essential ac and thru a rectifier to provide DC.
