Advice Sought.. Help !
Dear ALL,
Here goes. I've just had one of those weekend's. I'm a 29y/o male, beautiful wife(no kids yet) ,decent job (non-aviation) v nice house and a second apartment etc etc etc... however what I don't have is what I've always wanted since leaving school, a job in the aviation industry. I'm looking for advice (no smart arse comment's I can't deal with it now) on which route to take. At 29 what position's are open to me... I know this is exceptionally general however I'm not sure where to start... I love flying... Do I spend €75k+ pursuing the 0- hero route ? Do I take a long distance Aviation degree and end up in an executive position ? Do I go down the engineer route (if so where do I start?)
I know this thread may come across as being desperately general and generally desperatel but this is how it is...

If you were here (Australia) I would suggest looking into how our TAFE could help. www.central.wa.edu.au
But you first need a defined plan. I have been in this industry for 40 years and one thing I can say for sure is you will never stop learning. I had a chap join the industry at about your age and he has ended up in our CASA as an airworthiness officer.
Have you tried plodding down to nearby airports and trying to speak with the people there? You might like to consider offering your hands free for a few hours a week in order to gain some experiance. Obviously this will not include flying duties, but could cover skill sets you already have in office or general hangar duties. Insurance might be an issue?

As McAero rightly says, this is more or less down to you. You must surely have a strong interest in one specific area.
Flying and engineering are massively different, and are also a million miles away from an executive job in an airline boardroom.
But, If you have the bug for aviation (the same as myself), and you feel a sickness every time you see an aircraft overhead - then get yourself into the industry. It really is as fascinating as it seems..............
