Hi Turtle,
I worked in Shannon Aerospace from ī92 to ī95. Back then it was terrible. Basically they (SwissAir, Lufthansa and GPA) took 50 young guys and girls, gave them 2 years training in LHT or Swissair and let them lose on Heavy maintenance on MD80īs and B737īs. The average age was 23 years on the floor, the middle managers where all brits who had been rejected from other compnies. Combine that with 20-30 contractors and you have a disaster waiting to happen. It was close a few times, but by luck more than skill, nothing ever made the press. Thing have changed since I left, but some of my old collagues that hung around still think the place is badly managed.
Ireland, and especially the aera around Shannon is BRILLIANT.

It was still the same last summer. A bunch of very keen, very inexperienced, and very pressurised young guys trying to tell experienced contactors how to suck eggs while under constant pressure from the money people with no back up from QA. That is until something goes wrong. This happens quite regularly with the amount of gash engineers that SAL/PARC import from Bulgaria, Russia and the like who will work for Ģ10 per hour. If you go, don't sign for a thing until you are totally sure and always go back to see that the DD's you raised have not been put in the bin due to commercial pressures. As for Shannon itself, the weather is cr@p but the people very friendly. Enjoy but check that no one has binned your defects.

Cotos
I'm with you on this one.
when I was there we would hand write the defects and then they would enter them into a computer system changing the wording. The defect would sometimes appear on the defect card totally different to what you snagged.
All said, they are a very keen and knowledgeable bunch of guys and gals who know a lot on there specialist subject. They are seconded to hyd and u/c, engines, flight controls, doors, cabins etc. They work these areas every day, every check! But watch out..there are also a lot of inexperenced people/trainees and because you dont know them you may think that they know what there doing. I asked a young lad to spray some corrosion protection before closing the radome on a 737......scanner change...it was dripping!!!!
Good points are the chargehands are great people who certainly know there stuff. They look after the manpower and make decisions leaving you to get on with your inspections etc..On a D check you will have cards to inspect the flaps and other removable items, these all go straight into the workshops and come out like new.
A lot of good work goes on there but keep your wits about you.

Doctor A300...92-95 hmmmn did you marry an Irish girl..does your first name begin with M
