Just out of interest, what is your experience with jumpseating on airlines you don't work for? Is it allowed?

I once got stuck with a 24 hour delay in Manila, flying on PAL. (Not uncommon) I managed to get my ticket endorsed for 'any other carrier' and fronted up at the Singapore Airlines counter. After presenting my business card and a begging letter to the Captain they gave me a jump seat. After boarding the skipper 'downgraded' me to a first class seat. Very nice. Smoked salmon, champagne etc. I can vouch that SIA have the world's most comfortable jump seats.
