They are very representative of the aims and views of the UK lame, and they say they have provided legal representation if needed. But they will never give any examples.
They are in touch with the CAA and do pressurise them from our standpoints.
They have good links with similar bodies of other nations.
If you could get your fellow workers in this small company to join then they could really make a job of representing you.

In my experience (a couple of years ago), we contacted the legal dept for advice etc. on a dispute with our management over pay and conditions.
The advice given by ALAE proved to be wrong in several areas, it took a VERY long time to get replies to letters (if at all) and phone calls were not returned. Not what you need in an urgent matter.
I'm still a member but beware if you are only going to join to get legal help etc.

Any view's on the AEEU. I believe the TUC recommended them as the union for People working in Aircaft Engineering. They have over 750,000 members, and huge financial asset's,Free legal helpline's, Know your rights etc. Maybe they are worth looking at ?

I totally agree aeroguru, but I think that the more members a body has the more clout it has (within reason of course). The ALAE is too small to guide us the way we would all like to go, i.e. pay & recognition. We, at my company, are represented by the TGWU who have just rolled over and accepted a pay deal far less than our demands.
We need a union dedicated to a/c engineering but with a decent sized membership, a fine balance, perhaps, in our specialised trades! We need a voice and a loud one at that!
Anyone got any more ideas or info. on ALAE & AEEV? The "old gits" in my company keep harping on about SLATE.
