Use your resettlement to gain an MCE & go fix computers, dont do it ,you know it makes sense.

Those who say it cannot be done, shouldn't interrupt the engineer doing it.

To (ahem) Large William,
Don't believe the above. There are good, well-paying, secure jobs in aviation with excellent promotion prospects, free clothing and a good chance of travelling at the companies expense.

The bad news is they are all with the company who already employs you.

Go figure.

Willy, I suspect you are in the army working lynx and gazelle.

My advice is to get an AD300 into the CAA immediately, applying for your electrics licence. Get hold of the Electrics notes form somewhere (Licence by Post) and study like mad. Get this application in before the end of May. It's too late now I think to get on a course in time for a BCAR licence.

I am also an AV Snec in a blue suit. I have stated my first license and take my Oral next week.
The above post is spot on, you need to get you CAA apllication form in before end of May(AD300 look in "Forms" http://www.srg.caa.co.uk/pld/pld_home.asp). The CAA recognises your experience and training and will give you some exemptions to some exams.
After 1 June 01 you would have to go the JAR route and for us forces guys this isnt as an attractive option as they dont recogonise our experience etc. Hopefully this will change one day.
As far as the attitude expressed above by the guys in civvy street, I guess there are as many wingers and whiners as there are where we currently ply our trade but in civvy street they get paid a decent wage , dont go camping and dont go on jolly japes on the high seas.

D'hear that!

As an ex ‘Av snec in a blue suit’ I would urge you to follow the advice given above and apply for a section L licence before 1 June. After that I think it will be a whole lot harder for Service folks to go down the JAR route.

As for the ‘wingers and whiners’ I would take these comments as a bit tongue in cheek. Its true the job doesn’t seem as attractive as it used to be but I would guess that is the case in most industries and it would be a shame if you still enjoy it to waste all that experience. Give it a try and if you don’t like it you could always get a Kebab van or something.

Ps if you haven’t already had a look check out www.airmech.co.uk
