Qf 747-300 Fms

To any crew who have flown the QF 747-300,
I would be very interested if you could clarify the following from practical experience.
When intercepting track by engaging LNAV on the CMC900 is it possible to intercept from any angle, even 180 from, or does an acceptable approach intercept angle have to be set up and flown first.
Any definitive answers most appreciated.
