Question Wheel bars and spark plugs

Two Q's that have bugged me for ages:

What the hell is the bar forward of the main gear on Concord for?
(I believe it may be there on other types) You cannot miss it on the cover of Airliner World Dec 03.

What was the 'spark plug' looking gismo on the top of Shaks for, aaaaah Lancaster, the only girl in aviation to have two ugly sisters......

Can't answer your Shak question, but the bar forward of the main gear on Concorde is a water deflector.

I was given the 'wind up' explanation about the Shack' spark plug that it was for jump starting the engines!, but i believe that it is an HF antenna.
