After information on where I can get a good aviation friendly watch.

I currently have the old Citizen WR100, with the sweep hands and digital display, Zulu time and every bloody time zone in the world. And yes it has the circular slide rule (wizz wheel) on it as well. Unfortunatly these watches are out of production.

A light in the watch would be handy as well.

Am looking for something similar and at a resonably price, which the Blue Angels watch is unfortunatly not.

Please feel free to post any ideas here.

Why a fancy watch??

I use a cheap-as-chips timex, which puts UTC in the digital readout and has luminous hands for normal use.

There's a light you can just about read a map with.

Best part is the outside is a compass ring you can set to magnetic north. This makes the navigation part of diversions so brain dead simple I wonder why I bother with planning flights in the first place.

All for around $90.

ADEC made a slightly flashier one just as ideal for piloting too, which I owned until one AVGAS drenching too many killed it.

AMRAMMIf you want another citizen to replace yours I have a low TT one that I had to retire because my arm was too short to allow me to read it. Price negotiable. Email me.

I currently have a citizen eco drive Skyhawk...all the U beaut time zones, no battery, UTC,stop watches,yah de yah de yah
and a whizz wheel thrown in....a good aviators time piece.

Up to you really....what features are you looking for? :)

Retired my Seiko World Timer Chronograph which had "extra string", built in microwave oven, depth gauge, cd player, VLF Omega, babe alert and Immarsat phone amongst other things, which weighed close to a kg, for a superb Original Swiss Army watch, from Army Disposals which came with bonus little Swiss Army pocket knife.

Big hands with real arrows on the ends, about enough Radium on the ends and numbers to fuel a small nuclear reactor, that could be read with really short arms.
A sweep second hand you could actually see.
Didn't need a light as you could read a map with the radium stuff.
No fancy stopwatches, timers or nuffin and lets face it who could ever get them to work properly anyway, compact and weighed almost nothing and looked really cool.

I've had it with expensive watches. I bought a $19.95 Advance digital watch from Kmart, it even has this really big button on the front to turn the light on...Great in turbulence! No fancy wizz wheel but hey how many times do you use that anyway.

On the subject at hand:

Recently a flight crew was overnighting at a Middle East hotel. The next morning the flight attendants were waiting in the lobby for the tech crew but there was no sign of the captain. Suddenly with great commotion he sprinted through the lobby to the lift absolutely starkers, obviously had a big night out. An elderly woman seated next to one of the attractive f/a's leaned over and said "That's the pilot, you're going to be late" Intrigued the f/a asked her how she knew he was the pilot. "That's easy........................................................ ............................................................ .................... Big Watch, Little Dick!" :D :D :D

eh eh eh I still have a genuwine 'solid gold' Rolex Oyster ($25,000) and mrs gaunty has her Piaget ($30,000) for which I knocked the vendor in Hong Kong down to $30 for both.

We still wear them to the odd cocktail party where we know there will be a higher %age of BS pretenders than usual. :D
Now if you want some really good Persian rugs, my brother he........ :cool:

you know the best part, you'll be lining up to replace the Commode, long before your watch wears out. Unless it suffers extreme shock during some of your less gratious landings.

Gentlemen,

I think you will find that WR100 means water resistant to 100m and is not the model number! Nearly all Citizen watches have WR100 on the front of them! :cool:

Hope the blatent plug isn't against the rules, but Sydney Jewellers offers over 10% off retail for industry (show ID), and do tax free sales, all in Aussie Dollars - very very good value at the moment.

Their web site doesn't show it, but there is a good range of Breitling at their QVB store.

Aaah in the hurly burly, I forgot to ask you just what was Aviation watching?

Citizen have just begun to advertise their new aviators watch over here in Blighty so I'm not sure how long it's been around.

It's called the Titanium somethingorother and like the older one has zones and a whizzwheel but instead of a battery runs on light.

Shame I'd always fly left wing low if I wore one.

My Breitling Aerospace has lasted well for about 5 years now. It's light (titanium case, leather strap) simple (only one bezel, no buttons, so therefore able to be operated competently by me) and has no light so night flying is always cancelled. Advertised heavily a while ago as THE aviators watch, but falls short in one area. If you pull about 6'G' just as the minute hand is about to click forward, it can move backwards! Thats how my digital display got to be different from the analogue display by one minute. The Breitling folks were very quiet about that one. They admitted it could happen, and no, they don't advertise the fact. Wonder why..? :D :D :D
