Palm Pilot logbooks
Does anyone know where I could download a suitable log book application for a Palm Pilot?

Hi EPIRB
A friend of mine is currently developing a very capable log book program for PALM's. It appears to be very flexible and will monitor all flight time limitations, approaches, take-offs, landings etc. He plans to market it commercially as he has spent a very significant amount of money in developing it. I believe that it is in the advanced Beta testing phase. If you are interested, send me an e-mail and I'll give you his contact details. GB :) |
Best palm log book I've found so far is Captains Keeper. It ain't cheap though!
It consists of palm software + an electronic logbook that sits on your desktop. Each time you do a hotsync the electronic logbook is updated. A great site for other log books and lots of other PALM OS flying software is www.palmflying.com |
I used HanDBase (about US$25), and wrote my own. Took about 1 hr including drop down pick lists for crew, destinations, etc. Can amend them any time, but the overall program has been fine for my needs for many years, and I can print it up from the desktop program.
The added bonus is that HanDBase can be used for just about anything, not just the logbook. Courses for horses, of course. Cheers :) |
Zone 5,
Do you export your files to Access or Excel from HanDbase? I have heard alot about this program, and was wondering what is the best way to export. I currently run my Log Book under excel and use "Documents to Go" program for palm to sync across the platforms. Works for me, but doesn't do FTL's, only Logbook. |
Can Palm Pilots be infected with a virus? If so, how is eradicated?

I do all of my logbook calcs on the HanDBase desktop program, which is capable of those simple requirements, printing, etc. The desktop program will export to excel, .csv, text and a few others.
I personally still do my flight & duty limits by hand, um..., not usually something I come close to..... I've tried a couple of DB's, this one slightly less capable in terms of complex operators, but a lot faster on search, sort, recalc, very stable and simple to use. Same sort of thing you like in an airplane. Yes, a Palm can get a virus, but they're very rare, and usually fairly simple to eradicate. Unlike Windows, the Palm OS is very simple and straightforward, not such a great environment for a virus to hide. Nor do you "connect" to another device very often, a bit like being in constant quarantine. Cheers :) |
Be interested if you guys could read my post and provide some feedback, Ta, ITCZ.
