No Mercy from the Black Caps!

I've seen it all !

Don't mind you guys winning the America's Cup,belting the Wallabies, giving Ansett a hard time or playing silly buggars with sheep.....

BUT

thrashing us at cricket on Australia Day !!!!!!

KYBO 27th Jan 2002 01:05

well as an aussie one would think bloody hell i hate the NZ'ers winning the cricket

Call the typical aussie tradition of always having a soft spot for the underdog possibly but for some reason I always hope at times the KIWI's win at times in cricket

I guess it's due to the fact that the game in NZ is followed by very few ppl & not many youngters take the game up at all. So to see a small country with a very small cricket fraternity beat the aussies who have the acadamey etc to make us a very good team is amazing to say the least

Good on em & I hope they win more

Only mistake they made was in Knocking back the invite from us for some of their potential young guns to join the acadamey for the betterment of world cricket some years ago

Ok call me a traitor...........I just like to see cricket played without lop sidded teams.

ZK-NSJ 27th Jan 2002 02:08

that 150km/ph yorker that gilchrist got. .was a beauty wasn't it!

Zarg 27th Jan 2002 02:29

Goodonyer, Kiwis! Can't complain when a team plays well they deserve to win! Certainly deserve to win the final.

As long as we beat the Seth Efrikaans! :) :)

Icarus2001 27th Jan 2002 02:37

Sorry, but I think you are in the wrong forum!

nzer 27th Jan 2002 02:43

Thanks for the compliments guys - no doubt the ockers will come back fast and furious in the near future and put little brother back in his place! - but it's good to have the team do well, and gratifying for them to get due credit from our aussie mates - ICARUS: - this topic actually has A LOT to do with this forum, in that it is a focus for our (Duynnunda and Godzone's) common interests, not things that have tended to be divisive, of recent times, and from this more even handed and pleasant debate/rumour mongering/responses will follow on aviation topics.

Three Bars 27th Jan 2002 03:41

I think the policy of having different Test and One-day teams has bitten us badly. They have the dumped the most successful test opening combination in recent years (who scored at more than 4.5 per over in Tests!) which has exposed the out-of-form middle order that has previously been protected all summer.

Bring back Hayden/Langer for the one-dayers!!!!!

PLEASE!!!!!!!

Can't say I'm pleased to have those from the off-shore islands beat us, but ..it happens.

Credit where it's due - well played Kiwis.

radar o'reilly 27th Jan 2002 12:27

Gotta agree there, Mark Waugh is bloody hopeless. The kiwi's have fielded mostly the same strong side, and Fleming has done his homework.. .Whoever said the yorker that got Gillie was good, you're right, it was an absolute cracker. I don't know too many batsmen that would have kept that out.

And I am an Aussie, I just appreciate good sports teams, and the Kiwi one day team has our measure.

CL 1/2roe V2 S....just adding some aviation content!

The fat lady ain't singing. In fact she hasn't even got her song sheet out yet.

Watch this _

Whiskery 28th Jan 2002 03:20

Australia is just starting to realise you don't win cricket matches on reputation. The Kiwis have done their homework very well on the aussie batsmen ie Damian Martyn's dismissal. Shane Bond's much talked about yorker to Gilchrist was as good as Shane Warne's flipper to Mike Gatting.(many moons ago now!)

If the Aussies don't make some changes to the batting line up and devise some "game plan" in the next two games - we can all sit back and enjoy a New Zealand v South Africa final.

Icarus2001 28th Jan 2002 04:31

Hey Woomera what gives.

You moved a topic about dogs to Jetblast as it was not Aviation related but this thread continues.

I for one would rather hear about dogs than cricket.

Kaptin M 28th Jan 2002 05:17

Yes, I'm MIGHTY p!ssed!! :)

The Kelpie, Blue Heeler, Border Collie thread contained as much Aus/N.Z. and aviation content as this one, and also had the same opportunities to, . . [quote]bring Aussies and Kiwis together, rather than bickering.

I suggest, in the interests of fairness, that D&G is either opened up to ALL Aussie/Kiwi subjects - football, cricket, dogs, etc - or limited to immediate aviation-related posts only.

Binoculars 28th Jan 2002 05:46

Hey, Icarus! We heard you the first time, OK?

The first time you may not have known what the thread was about, but to come back in and complain again? Just go away if you don't like it.

As for the cricket, it's easy to have a game plan to restrict the opposition's scoring, in fact every team has one. Whether or not it works depends on the ability and adaptability of the other team, and Australia are failing miserably on both counts. I've thought Martyn should be Australia's first drop in Test cricket (the only game that counts) for some time now, but his exhibition in giving point the same catch two balls apart was shameful.

Umm, whiskery, Warne's delivery to Gatting was not a flipper, just a perfect leg-break.

And thanks, Woomera, for a bit of latitude. It's refreshing to be able to come to D&G and not listen to torrents of abuse. Evidence once again of sport's power.

Icarus2001 28th Jan 2002 07:10

Binoculars, you have spectacularly missed the point. Well done.

Reference you being glad to come in here and not see torrents of abuse, well surely your argument stands; don't enter! :)

When does a topic cease to become appropriate on PPRUNE?

Kaptin M 28th Jan 2002 11:08

How about the power of "Puppy Love", Binos?

And btw reportfurther, the sheepdog trials DO get live TV coverage in N.Z. - so I think it only fair that if the New Zeal;anders wish to discuss that on the D&G forum, no-one should whine :) about it.

IMHO, cricket (apart from the one day matches) ranks as one of THE most boring sports along with golf and competition couch grass growing!

Whiskery 28th Jan 2002 11:10

Kaptin M & Icarus 2001 - some topics on Pprune are a bit like discussions in the bar after a long haul flight.

You can get onto a subject (unrelated or related to flying) and it can hold your interest for the next hour or so. Another topic can see you finishing your beer and retiring for the night.

At this stage, the crew are still drinking!

Binos - I was sure that ball came out of the back of Warne's hand, but it was so long ago you may be right.
