Red face CX divided QF next...

Sadly CX management have successfully divided & soon to conquer it's pilot group. QF may well be next given the on going pressure to cut costs & the unlikley start up of a third operator leaving a lot of hungry OZ & NZ crew out there

Yes I agree, but this is all brought on by the unions...these unionist don't seem to know that they cannot win every battle with management...its their train set, and not everyone sees the issues in the same way...so the leadership to get their own way turn to militism and intimidation, this wrecks it for everyone and it becomes divisive in itself.

Capt Fathom,

I hope you're right, and that it a wind up, but I don't think so.

A phenomenon that exists in aviation is that a company builds its pilots up to where they should be, and then some prick in management doesn't like it so sets about undoing all the good work.

It happens time and time again, and QF under Dixon is a prime target. Virgin salaries and conditions are the new benchmark, and anybody who thinks Dixon isn't going after those levels is delusionary.

I hope I'm wrong for the sake of my many QF friends, but those of them who are realists believe they are in for a roughing up.

"...Virgin salaries and conditions are the new benchmark"

It is my understanding that Virgin Blue employ pilots on the lowest salaries of any 737 operator anywhere in the world, and I'm sure the other conditions are not great either. So I hope you're wrong K.ZZ

NJS, Impulse, Australian and now the NZ operation.

Perhaps its time AIPA took a look around and offered membership to the subsidiaries - it might be time to use a little forward thinking and preparation. Afterall 12 months ago no one would have predicted what happened to ansett.

I believe Freedom in NZ have that claim to fame...and you get to pay for your own type rating. Jet Connect (QF) to follow!

rescue1, do you read Qrewroom? The bit about AIPA has been done to death there. The short version is that AIPA can NOT offer it's services to anyone who is covered by another party. In this case, most of the regionals are covered by the AFAP. It is up to the individuals within those airlines to decide as a group that they would like to be represented by AIPA and make the representation to them, not the other way around.

Call Garry Duggan at the AIPA office, I'm sure he'll be happy to explain how it can be done.

Brote,

I hope I'm wrong, but you can bet your ass that Dixon will be looking at reducing QF to at or near Virgin. As a businessman, he has a compelling argument, but reducing pilots' salaries never translates to lower airfares; just more profit.

He'll probably leave the TWU alone.

Thumbs down

Correct me if I am wrong- but aren't Virgin Pilots after about a 40% increase in wages at the moment?? ie Captains from approximately 120k to 165K?? I think this is a windup- Qf pilots are probably in the bottom 25% in the world ( I went to a Line briefing about 6 months ago- the Chief pilot stated that mangement went all over the world looking for cheaper 767 drivers for Australian Airlines and only found one- in India).
Rescue 1- when we all the regionals be UNITED and say we want AIPA representation, here is everyone's signature for us to leave AFAP and have AIPA represent us?? As Keg says, all mainline drivers is the occasional mouthpiece on qrewroom. Get it together, and then go talk to Mr Duggan. And don't say i am mouthing off- I used to be in a Qf regional before I was lucky enough to get a go at mainline.

Rumour going around at the time at the time Aus air rates were being negotiated goes as follows:

QF: We want the AUS Air 767's pilots to be paid on a par with Virgin!!!

AIPA: ok, where do we sign?

QF: Huh??!

AIPA:Yeah, we will take that!! Virgin 737 rates were negotiated on the bases that a Captain get $1000 per year per seat. That equates to around 250K per year for a 767 Capt in the configuration you propose...yeah..we'll take that. (For the unititiated that is around 20-25% payrise on current QF rates)..

QF: uhhhhhh we will get back to you on that....

Whether that is how it really happened is of course problematic, bottom line is that QF pilots already are on the lower scales worldwide. Also some of the bovver boy tactics tried by CX in HKG are legal only in such industrially advanced countries such as China.
