Skywest.....What's going on?
Does anyone have any news of what's going on at Skywest?
Have they or are they going to pick up any contracts and if so will this lead to a Jet type?
Any one care to speculate.

Surely to win any mining contract in the North West, they would need to demonstrate that they can support and operate a jet operation first. From what I hear at the moment, that just isn’t going to happen. It seems they want the contract first?

Spot on, it takes looooong term committment with big bucks, to win the big mining companies, with QF already in there and VB close behind I dont think the current owners have the stomach for it.
In the time after the collapse to getting going, QF swept the deep end of the pool.
I think the long term plan was a quick, get it going and flog it off to the public for a quick buck in about six months. (=long term to this form of investor)
As that prospect, if ever there was one, becomes increasingly remote, the squabbles start.
Unfortunately the State Government will be dabbling around in the middle of it all and may prolong the agony longer than necessary.
The problem for them is that the only currently available alternative is Skippers.

Then QF would need to be very very careful, NOT necessarily about Skippers, but, that they are starting to get way way away from what they do best.
Do they have the management skills or understanding of this market at that level.
There would IMHO be some bigish cultural and fleet replacement issues as well.
Maybe they'd learn to live with each other, but in the big scheme of things.???
IMHO alliances maybe, ownership only if they take the lot.
Ansett went down that road and tried to control the whole game, need I say more.
There is a rapid onset of negative cost benefit that far out the end of the main management arm.
Stranger things have happened at sea.
Personally I reckon QF should go straight to Skywest, the scale and operations fit much better.
