Alliance Airlines
Australia's newest carrier, Alliance Airlines, officially took to the skies today, when the first of its aircraft to wear a new blue and gold colour scheme was unveiled at Brisbane Airport.
The new-look Fokker 100 jet was displayed at Brisbane's common user domestic terminal before making its inaugural flight - a promotional visit to Rockhampton, which the airline will serve daily from Monday, 26 August.
To mark the occasion today, the 91-seat aircraft was formally named City of Rockhampton by the Mayor, Councillor Margaret Strelow, who travelled to the City on the inaugural flight.
The aircraft features an all-white fuselage with the word Alliance emblazoned on the upper forward cabin, and a navy blue tail with gold arrow symbol.
The name City of Rockhampton is borne under the cockpit windows on both sides of the aircraft, accompanied by the official crest of the City, while a brass plaque is mounted on the forward cabin wall, commemorating the naming ceremony.
A media advertising campaign featuring the new name and logo will commence today in Rockhampton, Townsville and Gladstone, formally launching Alliance services.
The City of Rockhampton and other Fokker 100 aircraft will fly not only on the new Brisbane - Rockhampton route, but also on the Brisbane - Townsville sector, and from Brisbane and Sydney to Norfolk Island, commencing on 7 September.
As well, they will fly contract services from Townsville to resources sites operated in Western Queensland by Pasminco and WMC Limited, and will be available for charter flights.
It is the Airline's intention to progressively expand the network and fleet of Fokker 100 aircraft.
Alliance will progressively repaint three other aircraft in its fleet - a second Fokker 100 and two 30-seat Embraer Brasilia aircraft - and is currently sourcing additional Fokker 100 jets overseas.

Don't get me wrong here, I am very fond of the T-tail with rear mounted engines and no winglets look. Three Engines being even better than two!

BTW, how much is a used 737-500? Have they not got 90 or so seats. Now there's passenger appeal.

New one must be coming
Another F100 can't be far away, it would appear that on the 9nov Alliance will have one F100 in WA with Skywest, one scheduled Tsv-Bne and one scheduled Bne-Nlk all at the same time.

Long time no see, what are you flying these days. -400, CRJ or 146?
I have never flown on the F100, but have had many flights in the F28 and they were great, so I'm sure the F100 is much better. I spoke to Sunshine Express Airlines Chief Pilot and Senior Flight Attendant yesterday, both were on the F100 flight to Rockhampton and they both said the aircraft ws great. The F100 and the Brass would look good in SEA's colours, but I guess the two liveries are similar
From what I've been told management are very pleased with the economics of the F100.

Alliance Airlines unveiled its new livery on Wednesday amid speculation about the potential to become a third national carrier.
The blue and gold livery is the latest manifestation of the airline's remake under new boss Scott McMillian, who plans to add up to four 91 seat Fokker 100 aircraft as part of expansion plans.
That and Alliance moves to court international feeder traffic from Star Alliance carriers have attracted analyst interest.
Deutsche bank analyst Kevin O'Cpnnor devoted a page of his lastest report on Qantas to Allaince's relaunch and its move to forge links with internation carriers such as Singapore Airlines.
Mr O'Connor, who speculates about potential SIA involvement in Alliance concluded that the new airline could "represent some risk to Qantas" as an alternative for Star Allaince feeder traffic and as a regional competitor.
He says the F100s are reputedly good aircraft similar to the Boeing 717 used by Qantaslink but much cheaper.
"If Alliance can successfully build its fleet of Fokker 100s at current rental rates it could ahve a cost advantage on some of the regional routes" Mr O'Connor says.
The new livery was unveiled during a promotional flight to Rockhampton in central Queensland, which Alliance will serve daily from August 26.
The airline flies an unusual two class configuration that melds a bo-frills cabin featuring extra leg room with a full business-class offering.
Rockhampton was one of three new routes, including Norfolk Island, that the airline announced when it relaunched earlier this month.
It plans additional routes in Queensland and the Northern Territory and is also looking at NSW and Victoria.
The Norfolk services will fly from Sydney's International terminal, but Allaince will also continue to fly contract services from Townsville and is part of a bid by Western Australia's Skywest Airlines to take over the Argyle Diamond Mine air-services contract.
Skywest has been nominated as preferred tender for the bid and says that negotiations to finalise the three-year contract are well under way, with a planned start date of November 3.
Mr McMillian predicted blue skies ahead: "Since announcing our new name and services to Rockampton, and from Sydney yo Norfolk Island, we have received encouragement and support from the travelling public and travel industry.
"We are very confident about the future, and it is our intention to progessivley expand our network"

well spotted, the date of the WA start is 3nov.
The post should have read 9nov which is the date when the first conflict appears to occur although, one F100 is scheduled Bne-Nlk-Syd-Nlk-Bne on both 2 & 3 nov,
and if my memory serves me correctly there is Tsv-Bne-rok-bne on the 2nov and Bne-rok-Bne-Tsv using an F100 by then.

It would be nice to hear from the GM of Alliance with some news of expected reemployment or 'no thanks' advice sometime soon.

Anyone have an idea what plans (if any) Alliance Airlines have for Sunshine Express? I could be wrong but don't Aeromill Australia own 100% of Sunshine Express and Aeromill are a major shareholder of Alliance. Sunshine are currently operating within the Qantaslink group so would Qantas be happy with this? Do Qantas need or want Sunshine Express in their system, they have Sunstate and Mac-air, do they need a third very small operator in QLD?
Also Sunshine currently operate on routes that were once operated by Flight West, Thangool, Hervey Bay and Maroochydore. Alliance may not want Thangool, but Hervey Bay and Maroochy would be could ports to have back.
Sunshine have only a small fleet of 3 aircraft (1 Shorts360, 1 Metro and 1 Bandit), it can't be an efficient operation with only 1 of each type and soon Sunshine will be the only operator in Australia of the Shorts (Spares will become very expensive).
So far, Alliance have only said they plan to expand the F100 fleet, there has been no mention of their EMB120 fleet or if they will increase the fleet numbers from 2. They have said nothing about returning to places such as Emerald, Bundaberg or the Brisbane to Cairns (via all stops) which are ports that need a second operator. Could the master plan be that Alliance will be come an all jet operation and the turboprop operation handed over to Sunshine Express, with their fleet of 3 different types of aircraft replaced by a fleet of EMB120s.

Heard from sources inside both S. Exp. and AA that it will be split into 2 operations AA taking the jets and SE taking the trubo props. It all looks very sus with 1 person having major shares in both and now SQ at MC.

Word is Alliance will announce another 2 east coast destinations very soon.

The relationship between Alliance and Sunshine has started, but I think it will be a few more months before we see a tie-up between the two. From what I hear Sunshine are struggling with Qantas. Qantas is not providing any support to Sunshine and will not allow them E- ticket or internet access. I was talking to a Sunshine pilot last week ands he said that Qantas charge them each time they use the tarmac bus to pick up their passengers when they are in BNE. I think in the short term we will see more of what happened last week when an Alliance Bras operated the BNE-HBA route for a day while the Sunshine Shorts was U/S.
