Australian Airlines

Successful Flight Attendants with Australian Airlines have been given their start dates this week for training school.

With the first flights taking off on 27th October to Nagoya and Osaka have the tech crew been decided on and were their enough takers at QF?

Will their ever be external recruitment for Tech Crew?

Congrats to those who were successful!!!!

If Australian were to need outside tech crews (and I have no idea if they do), they could probably leave it until towards the end of August.

I am sure there are enough B767 type rated pilots on the books with AWAS who could be bought on line very quickly.

Any QF people care to add anything further ?

Exclamation Rumours only!

Rumours only so don't hold me to it.

Apparently, CP designate was inundated with offers from techies. I'm led to believe that F/O ranks are no dramas at all. Lots of very junior F/Os who want the pay rise and international flying- as well as some more senior ones. Captains may be a different story but lots of people sticking their hands up for an upgrade either from the 767 or from another fleet. Again, people trying to avoid being junior on the 767 under current conditions with the prospect of getting a command a few years earlier than in mainline. Whether Australian accepts that, who knows.

This gen is all third hand, spoke to someone who spoke to someone who had heard....

Hope that helps.

Exclamation Conditions

Again rumours only,
But i hear that the pay is only two thirds the standard mainline salary, loss of staff travel, different superannuation and you have to make your own way to Cairns. I also hear if you get a command you dont keep it on return to mainline QF!!!!! If indeed you choose to return.
Could this be true!!! If so, why would the CP be inundated with applications from current crews
Again folks just what I have been told!!!!

Pay two thirds of mainline - not such a simple statement, 2/3rds of whose pay (senior, junior, permanent pattern line or rotator??)? For the junior guys the pay is effectively equal, if not more in some cases. Throw in Cairns cost of living versus Sydney and it can be lots better, i.e no loss of money through rotating as a junior guy.

Commands - They are accepting expressions from non B767 Captains to be trained on B767. After that they will look at upgrades. Part of the decision process of the individual will be command issues on return to Qantas, those who do get Command upgrades (if this happens) will try and time their length of contract at Australian (initial contracts vary between 2 and 5 years) such that they will be eligible for command on return. Regardless, isnt 5 years command at Australian better than that time spent rotating as an FO in mainline? (for those interested in Australian).

Yes you do have to make your own way to Cairns.

Have heard a different story about pilot numbers from QF sidestepping over to Australian.

Have heard there are no where near enough volunteers hence the web widens.

Possible external recruiting in the near future.
