Qantas increases NZ flights

QANTAS will boost flights to New Zealand and Europe at the end of October as demand for its services picks up.
Sales and marketing manager John Borghetti announced the extra flights today.
From October 27, the airline will increase services to New Zealand by 19, from 39 to 58 each week.
The number of weekly Sydney to Auckland flights will increase from 22 to 37, and the number of Sydney to Christchurch services from 17 to 21.
Mr Borghetti said Qantas would also add a fourth weekly return service to Rome in October.
He said the increased capacity was in line with demand in the airline's key markets.
"With the additional Rome service, Qantas will operate a total of 35 return services a week to the UK and Europe.
"New Zealand is a popular business and leisure destination, and these additional services will take our total trans-Tasman frequency to 110 return flights a week."
Qantas recently confirmed it had been in talks to acquire a minority shareholding in Kiwi carrier Air New Zealand.
Qantas' new no-frills international airline Australian Airlines is also set for take off on October 27.
Australian Airlines will initially fly between Cairns and six Asian ports which the higher-cost Qantas is unable to service profitably - Osaka, Fukora, Singapore, Taipei, Hong Kong and Nagoya.
The single class airline will not compete with the existing services offered by its parent company and will be managed separately from Qantas under the leadership of chief executive Denis Adams.
The airline will have headquarters in Sydney and eventually offer flights to every mainland capital including Perth and Darwin.
It will initially operate with four Boeing 767-300 aircraft and build up to a fleet of 12.

"...every mainland capital including Perth and Darwin". The education system on the East coast must be lacking or do they just like repeating themselves. QANTAS the spirit of Sydney (oops Australia).

Can't help but feel all this frenzy of interest in Kiwiland may have something to do with the imminent arrival of VB on trans Tasman routes.
High volume, low yield traffic - fits the DJ model nicely.
Anecdotely, QF and NZ still not favourites with the Kiwi public?!
