Pigs CAN Fly
THE PIG IS BACK - LONG LIVE THE PIG.
Ah, now no more tupperware only in pitchblack!!
"Air Force’s fleet of F-111 strike/reconnaissance aircraft has been cleared to return to duty following a suspension from flying late last month.
Air Force has completed an initial investigation of the incident at RAAF Base Darwin involving F-111 (tail) number A8-112.
The primary cause of the incident was found to be a short circuit in a wiring loom. Repairs to the incident aircraft are on going, meanwhile, the balance of the fleet has been inspected and will be returned to flying following required rectifications.
The F-111 remains a formidable capability for the Australian Defence Force and provides a major deterrent in Australia’s area of operations.
A range of maintenance, support and development mechanisms are in place to keep the F-111 operational until the planned withdrawal date in the next decade.
F-111 aircraft may now take part in key exercises both in Australia (Pitch Black 02) and with the United States Air Force (Red Flag 02), later this year."

EMERGENCY LANDING AT DUBBO
A C-130 Hercules aircraft from RAAF Base Richmond, taking part in Exercise Pitch Black 2002, landed at Dubbo airport at approximately 3.15 this afternoon.
The aircraft, on a training mission from Richmond, was diverted to Dubbo when smoke and fumes filled the cockpit.
The aircraft landed safely and the aircrew were taken to Dubbo Hospital for routine checkups. One member will remain in hospital overnight for observation.
At this stage the cause of the smoke and fumes is unknown and investigations are continuing. Fault finding equipment will be sent to Dubbo tomorrow morning (Wednesday).
Further Information: Squadron Leader Lindsay Dooley 0418 269686

......the relics of Australia Air-force......
Have heard (dunno how reliably.... we were all as pi$$ed as newts at the time ), that after some sustained mach gazillion-and-a-half cruise, they have to touch-up the leading edges of the wings after most of the paint/coating has burnt away!
Anyone of you airforcey type chaps care to confirm or deny?

You might well say that, but to this day NOTHING even comes close in real effectiveness in terms of speed/payload/range/capability......
p.s. The Pig's paintjob will be aesthetically challenged above about M2.0

Reference Keg's post and the quote contained therein:
"....Fault finding equipment will be sent to Dubbo tomorrow morning..."
Why worry about the expense of flying in fault finding equipment when there are any number of fault finders among ppruners especially when it comes to anything to do with Qantas or Virgin.

Now if we are talking the Douglas Skyraider here then THAT is one seriously sexy piston beast.
Like the Pig you are unlikely to hear it before it is too late, but if you do dig like your life depends on it.

They distinguished themselves in Vietnam.
I have had the pleasure of watching a restored one of them at the "Air Races" with a full dummy ordnance load, no chance of winning against the real serious guys with the cut down full on Bearcats, Mustangs and and the like, but having one hell of a time just going round 'n round scaring the s**t out of'em.
Would just love to see a Pig around the pylons.
