NZ Instructor.

Greetings my antipodean friends,

I need to have a BFR in the next few months to renew my NZ PPL type thing. However, I'm currently residing in England and according to the NZ CAA, I need an NZ rated Cat A or B instructor to sign me off for another two years.

So.. can anyone please point me in the direction of a NZ instructor that happens to be based over in england at present?

Many fanks

Pil, have the NZ CAA said, that you can do a NZ BFR in a foreign registered aircraft. In a foreign country.

Curious to know.

How soon do you require the BFR to be completed.

Maybe able to help.

Good point.
I didn't ask whether the BFR has to be performed in a NZ registered aircraft. The chap said that the BFR is not only a review of your current skills level, but of any change in procedures that have occured since passing the GFT. You would like to think that forfilling either of these requirements is not dependent on where the aircraft is registered. I'll try and speak to the chap tonight and get a definite answer.

I need to get this completed by 1st Sept

Why renew?

I'm not an authority so you will need to get confirmation, but my understanding is as follows:

If you are not planning to fly in NZ at the moment you don't need to do a BFR as your PPL is a lifetime licence. When you come back here and want to fly, do the BFR then.

A word of warning though - the 'lifetime' statement is bull****. If you do nothing for 5 years (no flying, no medical etc) you will need to do the flight test again. A mate of mine with an NZ CPL came back from SA as he had a job with a regional. Had to do his CPL flight test and Law exam again (effectively he had to convert his SA licence to an NZ one) as it was 5 years and 10 weeks since he had done anything here. I believe if he had simpy renewed his medical once during that time he would have been alright. Check it out with the CAA.

Torres

As the Great NZ exPM Sir Piggy Muldoon once said, when he was hasseled about the number of Kiwis crossing the Tasman to live in Australia......"each time a kiwi crosses the tasman it increases the average IQ of both countries...."
