A few beers to see the old girl off into retirement sounds great! I've never been to Longreach, what is the length?

Thanks Juliet Whiskey. I just looked up my old 747-200 performance manual, at 210,000kgs (it would probably be lighter), zero wind and 30c it requires1650 meters. 1936 meters is more than enough!

JW, you're not calling ROM a toilet I hope ; last time I was through there they even had new bitumen on the strip!!

I'm in fer sure; be great to catch up with some long and lyrical philosophical discussions with Gaunty, Torres, Nasa et al......suitably lubricated natch!!

Keep all in touch for dates etc; should be a Bonza weekend!

Cheers.

S/pup.... what does your book say re runway width?

LR is 30m and I think you will find the 747 has a 45m requirement. That means CASA get to have a say!

Of course they have all the experts in CBR

bonez sorry I forgot about width. The performance manual I have does not state min. runway width, however I believe you are correct that in normal ops. you do require 45 meters.
The distance between outer wheels at a guess would be about 13 meters. (11.2 meters between struts). So all things considered, under the right conditions it should not be too hard to land on a 30 meter width strip.
Having said that, this flight would be a one way trip and you would hope that CASA would make allowances and give a dispensation.

Isn't this a private flight, what does CASA have to know??, private operation into an airfield in class G airspace, if VFR even better.
