RAAF F-111s grounded for second time this year
The Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) says its fleet of F-111s will remain grounded until it can determine what caused a problem with one of the bombers involved in a training exercise over Darwin.
It says the crew heard unusual noises coming from the aircraft, but managed to land successfully.
Group Captain Greg Fitzgerald says the the fleet is being grounded as a precautionary measure.
"Most of the crews would express a high degree of confidence in the aeroplane," Captain Fitzgerald said.
The F-111 fleet has now been grounded for the second time this year after cracks were discovered in a wing of one of the planes.
The Air Force says it will release its findings when the investigation is complete.

I don't have to go in harms way in one, but I still reckon they are the sexiest damn military aircraft in the world and still something very serious to reckon with in any theatre.
Crewed by the best in the world, I would be one groundhog digging as fast as I could, or one fast mover being very careful before engaging.
