Strange comments by airline management.

I have just received the July edition of Airways magazine. In it there is an article on Air New Zealand with a comment from Andrew Miller, senior vice-president, stratedgy and planning who states, quote, "We had a hiccup buying Ansett and grew beyond our natural size." A hiccup?? Some 60,000 people unemployed and it's a hiccup. I can't remember what his position was in Ansett but if this comment is typical of the management, it's no wonder the airline went under.

Never fly Air NZ.

Poor management, sloppy service (almost as bad as QF) and they killed Ansett.

AN2002, that is exactly what the author of the article experienced. He couldn't get a magazine from the front part of business class (he was tavelling business class) because that was where the subload staff were travelling (in the big seats) along with rudeness from the checkin staff.

Gosh more stimulating reading with his hot headed and rude remarks! This should be just soooOOOooooo good!

And I must say, you've certainly had a busy little start back at the blocks, 7 posts - all within the first hour of day one.

FF:

-Try to relax. Take a look at what you wrote. Not nice.

-Hot-headed remarks are more interesting than many of the bland, boring catty ones expressed around here.

-Who really cares how many posts/days/hours/minutes he's logged???

-If you're looking up all that cra.p and then commenting on it, YOU MUST BE BORED.

I will certainly fly ANZ again. Service was excellent. Had good experiences with QF too. ANZ killing Ansett, rather I think Ansett nearly killed ANZ.

Angry

Octane

She-man Helen Clark directly prevented PRIVATE CAPITAL being used to to reposition Ansett, with a consequent cost of $1 billion to the NZ taxpayer and the loss of 17000 direct jobs in Ansett.

Prior to the sheep-shaggers pre-emptive screw-up, the 1999 Ansett profit was $140.8 mil.

Stop sniffing your your user name. Parochial, petty, moron.

Petty to blame the Ansett demise on Helen Clark or ANZ for that matter. Years of mismanagement by many contributed in the end. Ansett was a basket case and ANZ didn't have the talent to spot it. The result would have been the same regardless of ANZ's involvement. Grow up E.P.

Cool

Keep sniffing baby! 17,000 jobs is anything but petty.

$ 140.8 MIL PROFIT in 1999 (prior to NZ taking a 100%) and
$ 3 BILLION DEBT less than two years later.

Yep! that's Ansett's fault, no question.

SQ were there with the money bag in '99 and in the end. There can be no doubt that Ansett would be here today if not for the Transvestite and the powerful minds on the NZ board.

Exactly my point! Air NZ is entirely responsible for the demise of a great Aussie icon.

Air New Zealand are only responsible for screwing up what was left of Ansett after Jake and the Fatman spent years raping Ansett Transport Industries.

Dream on!

Hell would have frozen over before Singapore Airlines invested money in Ansett. Unlike Air New Zealand, SQ know a good investment when they see one and Ansett was NEVER a good investment!

emeritus - that's more like it, but you will never convince the true believers.

Keep the faith:]

Ansett was being screwed for years by many management wasn't it . I thought ANZ was simply the last (they could have done what everyone else has, sell it to some other sap but alas time ran out)

pitty I use to fly with them in the hope they kept going(but lost all my dosh will not be doing that again)

Whiskerey,

Not a personal attack but your letting your antipathy for Ansett cloud your judgements.

I assume you were done over by AN during the dispute.

To say SQ knows a good investment when they see one fanciful, considering recent failings-Virgin Atlantic,AirNZ and the Indian crowd.

You should thank your lucky stars for the bumbling Kiwis, otherwise those you despise most would be thumbing you from the cockpit of A340s,747-400s etc.

Life is good, eh!

Good to the same old names from pre 89 coming out to criticise the "troughs in the snout attitude" of the former managements.

How much was that pay rise you all striked....sorry resigned over in 89....?
