Question 737 refuellers?

Reading AA today, it mentioned about the RAAF still looking for refuellers.

Does anyone know if the 737 is offered as such by Boeing? IMHO it would make sense to use it if they do, as they will have the BBJ's & AWACS fleets. Also, there must be a few ex AN airframes that might lend themselves to a conversion, assuming the 733 is a viable option.

Buster I have not heard of any 737 refuellers, would have thought the load capability was a little on the low side. With regards to using ex AN 733s, I would imagine that their hours/cycles would be a little too high to make it worth while.

Fair enough pup.

In thinking further on the matter, I guess the wingspan of the 737 wouldn't be conducive to get, say, 3 aircraft hooked up at any one tme, like the 707 or 767. Probably even too tight for 2 aircraft dragging behind.

Nah Buster 737s way too small for this role. In fact, QF apparently wants to lease thier 762s for this role but RAAF says these may be too small as well. There was a good article on this in AA about 12 months ago.

Buster if you were a load controller worth your salt you would know that the AN B737's could only carry approx 30,000 kgs total fuel with more tanks fitted.

A few B733 figures for those with calculators.....

MTOW 61235 kg
MZFW 48307 kg
Dry Op Wt 34000 kg

I work the max payload to be around 14300 kg. Must be doing my figures wrong.

B772...Just asking the question....I never thought it could refuel the Pacific fleet or such, but I wondered about additional tanks etc. I think it's size would be a bigger problem than how many tanks you can fit on it. BTW, I never did load control on anything with less than 2 aisles!!! Not worth the effort IMHO!!
