JT's 707 painted in V-Jet Livery

Last time we'll ever see this I'd say!

http://www.airliners.net/open.file/241594/L/

It's John Travolta's aircraft, of Qantas heritage (VH-EBM) and reportedly a temporary paint job for an advertising campaign being produced for the USA.

Talking

rumour doing the rounds a while ago, was that in light of qantas getting rid of their classic 747s JT was interested in buying one of them, and that he was interested in disposing of the 707. the hope was that it may end up in longreach with the newly donated classic. cant remember the exact source but it was respectable. all right i do remember but unfortunately not appropriate to name here. would be great if it could be pulled off

Looks fantastic and sure brings back memories.

Now that's what I call pure unadulterated guts, an airline like QF allowing their livery to be used on an aircraft over which I presume they have no control.

No direspect for the skills and ability of our friend JT and yes I'm as green as grass with envy. Always had a fantasy of having one of those parked at the local Aero Club, the acme of coolth, strolling out there and cranking for a few circuits and maybe a city and beaches, followed by a cool beer.

But if any thing were to happen it would be on CNN for days and it would take an awful lot of reruns of THAT movie to repair the damage.

When I saw the title of this thread, I immediately thought it'd have something to do with a 707 that john_tullamarine might have flown. Still it's a great photo and brings back memories of a time when such a view was more like commonplace in Oz. Guess that means I'm getting old...

Any idea where the shot was taken? I note the Red Rat 747s in the background...

Taildragger, the blurb under the photo suggests LAX. Pretty good positioning by the photographer to get it with the current tails in the background!

What a fantastic shot!It would be equally fantastic to see this bird preserved next to the -200 in Longreach(Ok,pipe dream).
Why not just swap the 707 for an SP?.No doubt better use to JT and preserves some of our history at the same time.QF to do some work on the SP though!

JT was recently in the coffee room in the simulator building at the QF Jet Base and he said that he had been very keen on acquiring an SP (EAA) but he ran into a lot of problems getting it on the US register - ended up putting it in the too hard basket and both SP's have now been dismantled in the Arizona desert.

JT's focus has now shifted - it appears that 747-400's are available quite cheap and it is his intention to acquire one. The very senior QF captain that he was with was giving him a practise session in a -400 simulator and I understood that it is his intention to pay QF for a -400 endorsement. Appears that he has quite a large fleet of aircraft in the US which are hired out for executive travel.

Taildragger,
It seems almost certain that the B707 has just lifted off 24L at Lax. As mentioned, it was good work (or dumb luck ) to get the current tails in shot. I see that the B707 has -300 nose cowls fitted - maybe for noise abatement.

Have heard that this aircraft will be visiting Melbourne on 16/6 at 10.30 and Perth on 17/6 at 10.00 - info courtesy of the SYD message board.

The paint job has slightly changed from that photographed earlier to now include the full Qantas "Australia's Overseas Airline" titles as seen here:

I'm suprised QF has let him paint it up in with their name on it. But bloody great to see it like that though.

They must of taken no time in painting it. I saw that aircraft on the ramp at Tocumen Panama International, PANAMA only 3 months ago. He was down in Panama making a movie, who knows what it was. Ity used to be white with light blue, but this scheme looks better.

Love to get a gig on it though.

I was speaking to a guy I know who is in the Australian Air League - he told me the follwing

"The 707 has been painted up in the Qantas V Jet scheme for an advertising campaign that Qantas is going to be running soon, unfortunately it will not be staying like that for long.

The company I work for was originally going to be doing the graphics on one the the RAAF's 707's, but that idea got squashed when the Air Force couldn't make one available, so they approached John Travolta and have leased his.

Unfortunately, we weren't given enough time to get the decals ready, so we missed out on the job, but the company who is doing the job is the same that we worked with on the Qantas F1 747-400.

Don't know about the rest of the country, but the 707 will be arriving in Melbourne on July the 16th for an undetermined length of time."
