Question False Advertising

Does anyone else think it wrong that a flying school is advertising an accident and incident free safety record on their website when they have had at least 2 newsworthy accidents in the last 18 months or so?

That doesn't include at least one other incident that didn't make the news not long back.

Be interested in hearing peoples thoughts.

Cheers

Can you show the web address or the name of the school?

I could name the school and show the web site, but I won't...that wasn't the reason for putting it up.

The main reason is considoring peoples perceptions on flying is it acceptable to do this.

This isn't the only false claim made by the owner operator.

Wink

Three untruths are glaringly obvious:

1. The company has gone from strength to strength and is now Western Australia's largest privately owned flying school and the number one school at Jandakot Airport, Western Australia
hmmm, now I wonder what data is used to qualify a statement like this? Largest privately owned building OK. Largest fleet of aircraft - WRONG!

2. ****** ********, owner and managing director of *** ********* has brought to the company his extensive experience in aviation and management from the U.S. Navy where he flew fighter aircraft.
Always a good debating point this one.... Varying accounts of doing anything from being a navigator to carrying fighter jock's helmet bags off the flightdeck

2. *** ********* is second to none in its operations. Since our beginning in 1992 our pilots have flown over 60,000 Flight Hours and 15,000,000 kms Accident and Incident Free.
60,000 hrs in 10 yrs that equates to 500hrs a month, every month.... give me a break. Plus two aircraft upside down in the space of a year and one collapsed undercarriage on landing dont qualify as an accident or incedent?

I nearly puked when I read some of the other quotes.

I see the "patient return" aircraft is the same one they use for their advertised mile high flights. Hope they clean the jism off the upholstery before putting someones dear old gran in the back for a trip down to Albany

The answer to the original question is NO.
The question now is: What are those in the know doing about it. Bringing it up here is a good start but it needs to go further. I hope all the relevant Authorities are aware of whats going on. By the sounds of it, I'm on the other side of the continent and I'm glad I'm not competing with them.

If the proprietor is upset by this thread all I can say is "You reap what you sow"

The 'JR Ewing School of Management, Dallas, Texas' style of business practices haven't won him many friends around here.

Ok, so most know who I'm on about......good guessing all round....

Personaly I think the guy is as two faced as they come, but hey thats just my own opinion.....although something tells me young CFI isn't all that impressed with him either

The question now stands, as mentioned by I Fly, should or can anything be done about it..

If he can blatently lie to all who look at his site, what is he saying to people walking in the door?, I know he told one prospective student things about other schools that were just not called for.

If he has to resort to this type of slander and mis-information, he can't have crap all else to offer as far as I'm concerned.

Do the other schools up and down the strip say something?

I may not get on with other schools, although I like to think I do, I certainly won't lower myself to that type of trashing of other organisations, students should go where they feel comfortable.

I know you don't see eye to eye with him CFI, I think thats pretty well known on the strip, and your comments didn't surprise me but like mentioned earlier.....do we do something?

Interested in peoples thoughts.......

Cheers

OK so maybe I shouldn't have used the "a" word. Perhaps it was a bit subtle for some...(it's a bit of an "in joke" here at YPJT)...suffice to say what goes around comes around.

Can any of our legally inclined colleagues inform us of the liability of advertising untruths on the internet?

PS turbine, you are the one who has named names, which is more damaging to this person professionally and personally than any of the other posts so far, where subtlety has been the key and only those who are already in the know would "get it".

Not a good look.

False advertising, fraud, obtaining goods or services by deception. Just some terms a mate of mine uses from time to time in his work place. Unsure of whether they suit here or not!

I figured that while I was here I'd add some of my other favourite flying schools advertisement quotes.

(This list includes flying schools that I hold in the highest regard)

"In only 5 months you can be a professional"

"******* has more graduates in Commercial Pilot positions than any other school"

"Your best career decision"

and my favourite
"Learn to fly with a friendly award winning relaxed school with great coffee"
