Just heard QF B747-338, VH-EBW has run off the taxiway onto grass at Perth Airport last night. Anyone know anything?

QF Incident

Pup - a local "spotter" saw it. Gave the rego et al....

He thought we'd be reading about it. Must be plenty of news around - not short of stories.

You're right Sopwith Pup, it was a non event . He missed a taxiway turn and due to taxiway strength ahead of him, had nowhere to go but backwards, thus needing a tug to get himself out.

Glad to see the "R" part of PPRUNE is alive and well, and good on you luna for telling us about it, but you do yourself a bit of a disservice sensationalising it by calling it an accident.

Smacker so let's get this straight - was the aircraft on paved areas suitable for its weight at all times? Is it a common occurrance at Perth for 747s to roll through the threshold?

Can we thank AN's demise for the lack of journo sources with crappy QF incidents?

luna - you are obviously not aware of the definition of an "accident" or "incident".

to what you refer, 'may' qualify as an incident, but it is in no way shape or form an accident.

see below from the atsb web site....................

Accident as defined by the Air Navigation Act 1920 Part 2A Section 19AA:
"19AA.(1) "For the purpose of this part, an accident, in relation to an aircraft occurs if:
(a) as a result of an occurrence associated with the operation of the aircraft which takes place between the time any person boards the
aircraft with the intention of flight until such time as all such persons have disembarked, a person dies or suffers serious injury while in the
aircraft or while in contact with the aircraft or anything attached to the aircraft or anything that has detached from the aircraft; or
(b) the aircraft is missing; or
(c) there are reasonable grounds for believing that the aircraft has incurred damage or structural failure; or
(d) the aircraft is inaccessible and there are reasonable ground for believing the aircraft has been damaged; or
(e) as a result of an occurrence associated with operation of the aircraft which takes place between the time any person boards the aircraft with the
intention of flight until such time as all such persons have disembarked, the aircraft incurs damage or structural failure that adversely affects the
structural strength, performance, or flight characteristics of the aircraft to a significant extent.
(2) Paragraph (1) (a) does not extend to death or serious injury that:
(a) arises from natural causes; or
(b) is self-inflicted; or
(c) is caused or inflicted by the action of a person not performing duties of functions associated with the operation of the aircraft; or
(d) is suffered by a stowaway while hiding in part of the aircraft not usually accessible to crew or passengers when all external doors and
hatches of the aircraft are closed.
(3) for the purpose of this section:
(a) a death includes any injury to a person that results in the death of the person within 30 days after the occurrence associated with the
operation of the aircraft; and
(b) a serious injury does not include an injury covered by paragraph (a)."

It's part of QF's new take on CAO 20.7.1b.

Stopway

Clearway

Fairway: A area which may...or may not be controlled and which may....or may not be adjacent to the airfield where an aircraft may.....or may not decelerate to 0 kts when Stopway and Clearway have not been adequate.

GUR: Grundies Under repair.

Bunker: Where the PR people go straight after.

A Bad Lie: That which is used to excuse use of fairway.

Water Hazard: What some runways have instead of Stopway,Clearway and Fairway.

Sorry........couldn't help myself

Chuckles.

Green is the colour of the "shouting coupons" that would have to be redeemed at the bar of the closest refreshment establishment by the guilty party/ies, for the other workmates who saw or had to hide the evidence of the mishap.

Talking Accident or Incident?

Hey luna, I spilt tea on my tie the other day and that was an 'accident' too but I don't see a PPRUNE thread about yet another QF 'accident'.

Anyone actually have any facts? WHat runway/taxiway etc? I know that for a classic to get to the domestic terminal there are limited ways to get there so if you miss tasiway Delta (I think) landing on 03 then you may be in some strife! Facts, however, seem to be hard to find.

Hey Keg

I've had a good think about it, and it seems it all depends whether you were on the taxi way or the grass when you spilt your tea!!
