It is a difficult time for all the Southern crews . It was not easy for the NJS crews who were moved out of Canberra with very little notice. Since the demise of Ansett Dixon and his team seem to have been shooting from the hip, It must have cost near $1000000 to move NJS out ,and Southern in. They will do Whatever they think is the best for Q and their shareholders. We can go along with the decisions or go elsewhere. I have noticed that earlier on in the thread the view was put that some Southern pilots would rather go Dash 8 with a 40000 pay cut than work for NJS because they dont have the benifit of ID travel etc. My experience of ID travel with a young family is something I will never do again, 1 week at the SBY counter with young children will ruin any holiday. Give me Easyway any day. With Q shooting from the hip as they are it is difficult to imagine just what is next on the career front for Regional pilots, I am going to place my fingers in my ears and hope for the best.

Let's hope someone buys Kendell & Hazelton, knows what they're doing and serves it up to QF-Link. Better still, let's hope some regional airline culture is preserved in some shape or form.

Kendell's Wagga base (admin) and Hazelton's Organge base may also follow the same fait as Mildura, with indications of a Sydney Headquarters being made by perspective bidders of a merged KD/ZL.

Lightbulb It's not the same for Ops Staff

One things that you ops guys may not be aware of is,

most of the senior management (and certainly not ops management) are on performance packages. Our friend running the subsidiaries gets a bonus because he reduces costs. Doesn't matter how he does it but typically they merge or outsource. The same thing is happening in QF IT. They plan to go to an ASP model when everyone else in the world is bringing things back in house. These 2 people as examples (above) are not experts in their field you'd even go as far as saying they are paid what they are worth. But Geoff is happy as it reduces costs, etc and the returns for their shareholders (I hate it when they bring out that line) is increased.

But are they doing the right thing by the airline - well NO. We need more people like Ken Lewis to fight for the operations side, at least he is on our side. Gee, there's something to ask I wonder how many of the most senior management have heard of Ken or David Forsyth and know of their background and know how well respected in the 'aviation' industry. 2 or 3 maybe.

Guys, Southern is going (read gone). Start looking deeper in the future and at your next job when management announce something.

Thumbs down

Peterwally

Totally incorrect :
There will be 2 managments

-1 Overlooking Impulse/Nat jet

-2nd overlooking 1 turbo-prop company

ie 1 regional turbo-prop company ask the Southern pilots who went to the meetings
Stage 1 is intergration of Eastern/Southern

bugsy – not quite considering they don’t really have their plan such as it is in place yet nor is it in any way assured that it will turn out that way.

what they want is one ceo over 2 aocs which casa have not yet come to terms with yet. but considering the number of issues they did not even consider it could be some time yet before the wheels start to turn. one of the unions involved was only advised formally last week – is this a proper way to do a review?

it aint no review or business plan 'cause they don’t have much of clue what they are doing.

the single seniority list will slow them down a bit as well. now that the fa's have been given the world I doubt if the pilots will settle for much less
