ZL "Survivor" ???
What the hell is going on with the revival of this airline. Country NSW will surely be the looser if "Qaintarse" gets its way of screwing the "Big Country Airline" and it's people into the ground. Its about time ZL got some of the recognition and support it's worth.

Hazelton has a pedigree that is both well known and respected by east coast regional Australia.
Hazelton is responsible for a number of 'firsts'.
It was the first regional airline, growing from it's spraying, and air-taxi roots which were established in 1953.
It was the first regional airline to operate services to Canberra (from Orange).
It was the Australian launch customer for the Saab 340B.
It was the first publicly listed airline (1993) in Australia, way ahead of Qantas.
It was the first AN 'subsidiary'airline to get back on it's 'feet' after the Ansett meltdown.
It is interesting to note that Ansett only owned Hazelton between April and September 2001. Unfortunately because of that short term ownership, Hazelton was 'snagged' with the rest of them and 'brought down'. Otherwise things would now have been very different indeed.
Hazelton prides itself on being a low cost operator (with costs which are much lower than either Eastern or Kendell).
In the post Ansett I marketplace it is recognised for these and other merits by those in the throes of doing the buying.
Qantas/Eastern is currently under ACCC investigation for capacity dumping in TW/ARM/CB/AY and WG.
It is worthwhile noting that Qantas/Eastern have short-term leased both the additional Dash-8 2/300's and their new pilots for an initial 12 months only. Clearly this is a cynical exercise by an airline 'bully'to attempt to 'bust' all competition in order to capture the entire market! I wonder how long it will take the ACCC to draw similar conclusions!
The next chapter in the life of this great company should be very interesting!
The Oracle!!

Moderate, Modest & Mild.
Agreed!!. .Full accolades to Max, Laurel and Peter - but especially Max and Laurel for nurturing Hazo`s from birth through to the great Company it became. A very fair boss, gentleman, and family man, who contributed a great deal to Australian aviation, and was willing to give anyone a start . Thanks Max!
To think that he, Laurel, and only a couple of office workers used to EFFICIENTLY run that company when it was comprised of 23 aircraft, including croppies, commuters, bank-runners, and ad hoc charter work, makes today`s so caleed "managers" pale in comparison.

Mr Oracle,
The 3 Dash8-300's will be on a 12 month lease, possibly permanent. For your information, they are for other markets that I don't care to divulge on this forum.
As for capacity dumping.....I haven't noticed any increases in servicing to any of the ports you mentioned. However, I did take a -315 to AY on a couple of flights this week. But we did have more pax than a -100 could carry. Even though other airlines are charging $79 dollar fares.
This is not the first time aircraft have had to 'prove' themselves prior to permanency. I seem to remember VH-TQG and S or X (-201's) were under a similar deal and yes, they stayed. However the crew situation is as you described. I'm optimistic that they will stay also. Eastern haven't sent a plane back yet....
Pretty much all Australian regionals should be proud of the fact that they all are low cost. I have friends at ZL that have earned considerably more than me last tax year, and I know for a fact that the ZL F/A's earn several thousand more than Eastern F/A's. So it's all relative.
Let's just keep it balanced, and don't believe everything you read in the papers.
