Impulse(Qantas) to reduce their 1900 fleet to six
Impulse will reduce their 1900 fleet to six aircraft over the next 3-6 months. Both Eastern and Sunstate have more Dash 8's arriving in the new year and Qantas wants to return to a 30+ seat operation for their regional operation. There will be no job loses, but recruitment on the 1900 will stop.

The six remaining aircraft to be painted soon with quicker transition for crew to the 717. Anyone heard anything about more jets? No more recruitment means have to hold for a bit longer.
Time to change the blades.

4 more 717's over the next 6 months, hope you are right about there being no job losses on the 1900. Have been told that the 1900 will not be painted in QF colours, will be painted boring old white.

The ports Impulse will drop are Charleville, Canberra, Cooma, Grafton, Glen Innes, Hervey Bay, Inverell, Maryborough and Taree. Services between Newcastle and Sydney we be reduced to a few flights per day (off peak). The Sydney 1900 base will close leaving only Newcastle and Brisbane has 1900 crew bases. The reduced Impulse 1900 fleet will operate on routes that can't/don't warrant larger aircraft, these routes will be the Newcastle to Brisbane (all stops), the Brisbane to Tamworth (via Armidale)and the Brisbane to Barcaldine/Blackall route.
The rumour about 4-6 more 717s is looking good, so it's not all doom and gloom at Impulse.

Ok ok ok, you seem to be in the know. These extra 717's (Of which I have heard 7 are coming), between which ports will they be flying? With the reduction in 1900's, NTL must be looking pretty shaky as well.... especially once the CBR base is up on line.
Cheers!

With more 717s and the imminent arrival of loads of extra 737s, does this spell the end of the flying fruitbat (146) in our skies?
QF apparently want Southern to drop their jets and concentrate in Dash 8 ops - basically that means Impulse 717s replacing Southern 146s on CBR-MEL/BNE/ADL etc.
But with 737s taking over a good portion of WA regionals, it seems to me that NJS might soon see its last ops for Qantas. The much-maligned 146 would then be history downunder but for freight ops. Anyone in the know?

From what I just found it looks like Qantas will reduce the B1900D fleet to '0'.
I found this on speednews.com
There are 25 B1900D aircraft listed for sale/lease on this site, including the following aircraft that were listed on the 26/11/2001. These aircraft are listed as For Sale and avilable now.
UE7 (IMA): 24368 hours
UE10 (MML): 22359
UE117(NTL): 17107
UE191(IAR): 14663
UE200(IAV): 14359
UE214(IMS): 13274
UE230(IMH): 11763
UE250(IAY): 11625
UE273(IMQ): 10504
UE318(NBN): 8231
UE324(IMR): 7739
UE325(NKN): 7430
UE360(FOZ): 2613
If you want to check out the the above listings, goto www.speednews.com click on available aircraft then look under Raytheon(Beech) 1900D in the commuter section.
It would appear that Qantas are not wasting any time in trying to dispose of the 1900D's.
A question for the Impulse pilots, have you been told the 1900D's are going and will you all move onto the 717?

I heard that they were going to keep six, but by looking at that web site I guess they are on their way quicker than people thought.
I hope all the drivers on it are looked after.
It will be interesting to see what the future holds for Impulse.

The ADL man,
I don't think we will see the end of the Airlink 146 operation. There are far to many routes in QLD, NT and WA that they operate which are not suited for a 717 type aircraft.
However a 717 base in CBR operating to MEL/ADL/BNE is very possible. I don't think we will see any more than 4 new 717's.
There is also talk that Impulse may start to park a few B1900's while they await a buyer.
Could be a good time for a smaller operator to upgrade to the 1900 and operate some of the old Impulse routes.
