Question What Other Qualifications Do You Have?

Being in the position of having been stood down, I realised how important it is to have another form of qualifiation to fall back on. Unfortunately I don't have one which leaves me in an unstable position. Do any of you Ppruners out there have other qualifications and if so what are they?

Registered nurse (general & psychiatric). Has been & still is very, very useful for alternative employment, anywhere in the world.

Truck & bus licences (not semi but includes articulated buses. Go figure...)

Graduate Certificate in Adult Education & Training from University of New England. Useless as t*ts on a bull.

3)how to look for work at the dole office(what a joke CES is)

Found out that life outside aviation is full and wonder where I found time to go to work.

But miss flying the big bird

Another Registered Nurse. Great job because of the flexibility...can ring up two hours in advance (or less!!) and usually get a shift!

Microsoft Certified Professional.

However this qualification is much like those in aviation - it must be renewed regularly and reflects the current status of operating systems etc. I was fortunate to be employed last year by an aviation company who is still in business so I would need some serious work to get back up to speed in the computer world.

I must say that I spent 5 years in IT while progressing through flying training and I enjoyed (almost) every minute of it and I am glad I still have that experience.

Advanced Life Support Ambulance Officer.

When I left flying in 1984 at the time that airline doors closed at 26 years old I felt that I would (and could) never go back. There is certainly something to be said for a "secure" government position but I still miss career flying and am glad I am in a position to keep it on as a "free" hobby with my hard earned ATPL.

Having tried to get back in with regionals recently prior to the collapses I am even more grateful of my position.

EPIRB, with your Wollongong history you probably know who I am but I can't work out who you are. Please drop me an email...

The only truly portable and in demand professions are indeed RNs and teachers.

From the start (1984)....

1)Macca's!
2)Barman (and later a Doorman in the same establishment) - part time during my apprenticeship. Army reserve at the same time for a few years during and after becoming qualified mechanic for the extra funds).
3)Qualified motor mechanic.
4)Plumbing work (in the family.... last eight years. Only a temporary job, mind you)! Project manager in same industry.
5)Driving a tipper (HR lic) for a builder when not working directly for the "old man".
6)Have been busily involved in Australian Volunteer Coast Guard since around '93.
7)Oh yeah, and that other thing I have spent a veritable ****load of money on during the past few years.

You might say that the last 17 years have been a little busy.

Offshore oil & gas industry safety trainer.

Downside is having to spend a lot of time away from home. Good thing is the booze shelf is well stocked with a variety of duty free.

20yrs in reg Army (only get 12 for murder)
Numerous bs diplomas and certificates.

I am fortunate in that I left school at a very early age and tried my hand at every thing, I can rope a bull ride a horse, break a horse, shoe a horse, build a fence, shear a sheep, kill a sheep, shoot a roo, butcher a bullock, track a black snake up a bituman road at midnight (never found real cause for this skill yet)drive a truck, back a roadtrain, operate any earth work machine you would care to put me on, do final trim on a grader, drill a bore, dig a well, blast a mine face, skipper a boat, set a net/long line/crab net/cray pot, build a 2 horse power two stroke engine, build a 1500 hp diesel engine, drive a "G"and "L" class locomotive, repair a rail way line, weld almost anything that requires welding, fly a plane, am a qualified diesel fitter (heavy duty stuff, eg, D10L,cat 777,any truck you can mention etc,etc) a licenced security guard, still have a taxi drivers licence............strewth I could go on.
any way, after all that, the only industry that I feel insecure in is aviation......bloody glad I got kicked outa school.

Oh I forgot to add that I can set up a sentrax system as well as do a bit on the senstar stuff too, then theres the building and repairing of computers as well as a lil bit of software stuff.............any body got a job available that doesnt include any of the stuff that I have mentioned, I would love to hear from ya.........always seeking a new challange.

2. Associate Diploma Marime Radiocommunication (AMC 1981)
3. Radio Communication General Certificate of Proficiency
4. GMDSS Radio Operators Certificate of Proficiency
5. Radar Maintenance Certificate (AMC 1984)
6. Marine Radio Surveyor (AMSA 1998)
7. Heavy Vehicle Licence (Class HC, semi-trailers and articulated vehicles to 45 tonnes)

Apparently, with all these technical qualifications I am now qualified to:-

a) shoot microwave beams at satellites, or
b) drive TV stations (master control/pres),or
c) drive heavy vehicles, and of course,
c) teach.

Almost a professional wine taster, but failed at the part where you spit it out.

Professional Shaftee (yes something learned from aviation)

Expert on how to make cruddy looking food look less cruddy, even edible (lesson from wollies)

One year of a Uni degree, BA Aviation, waste of time i thought.

I can also speak many different languages, i can say "Can i have a beer" in 7 different languges!!!
