Emirates will take off for the first time from Dubai to Perth on August 2 - marking the first ever non-stop link between the Gulf and Australia.

Flights to Perth, which will be Emirates' third destination in Australia after Melbourne and Sydney, will depart Dubai every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.

Flight number EK420 Dubai-Perth will be operated with a Boeing 777-200 and flying time will be 10 hours and 50 minutes. The new destination means that Emirates will have 15 flights from Dubai to Australia each week.

Presently, the airline has no immediate plans start non-stop flights to Melbourne and Sydney because it does not have an aircraft to fly those distances, said a spokesperson.

While the airline would like to have more destinations in Australia, no other major cities have been earmarked yet.

Both Emirates and the Western Australia Government are confident that the new service will boost leisure, travel and trade links between the Gulf and Western Australia and provide improved access between Perth and key European destinations.

Services to Perth will open up the large Western Australian agricultural market to Gulf customers, and manufactured goods are expected to account for most imports.

Each Emirates flight, from all of its 14 European destinations, arrives in Dubai with a convenient connection time for the Perth service.

Flights from seven European cities offer a connection time of under two hours.

Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of the Dubai Civil Aviation and chairman of Emirates, said he was delighted to see this development come to fruition.

"Emirates has played a major role in the dramatic growth of trade and leisure travel links between the Gulf and Australia," said Sheikh Ahmed. "I am delighted to see these developments continue.

"These new flights will benefit passengers in three regions - the Middle East, Australia and Europe - by providing a non-stop service between the Dubai and Australia and a fast, one-stop service between Australia and Europe."

The EK420 flight will have 18 first class, 49 business class, and 236 economy class sets.

Flights will depart Dubai every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday at 2.35am, arriving in Perth at 5.25pm. The return flight, EK421, will operate on the same days departing Perth at 10.30pm and arriving in Dubai at 5.40am the following morning.
