Do real Australians visit this site?
Given the current situation involving many thousands of Australian workers, it is with uncertainty I feel proud to be Australian. Reading all the comments directing ill feeling towards all the prospective unemployed really makes me sick.
The events of 89 only involved a small minority of all the people currently employed by AN, its regionals, and many others who depend on its existence for survival. What have the other majority of people done to deserve the negative sentiments?
My employment is not under threat from this current situation, but many of my close friends and associates are not as fortunate. A lot of these people were still in school and too young too understand the events that occurred back then, yet they are tarred by the sinister tones displayed on these forums.
I don't wish to say that those involved in 89 didn't suffer, indeed they did and I am sympathetic to the pain and sacrifices they had to make. However, in seeking revenge, it would appear to me to be a greater crime to punish innocent people (approx 99% of those currently under threat)as opposed to displaying some basic humanity and only directing your ill feelings to those involved in the situation from which these emotions extend.
All the best to those involved, I hope it all works out for you. Even more so, I hope that I am not reflecting the opinion of a minority group of sympathetic Australians in saying so.
